Lament

no idea why i bought this album coupe years ago.
Never heard of the composer, Giya Kancheli and did not even know the meaning of the very word "lament."
Gidon Kremer was perhaps part of the reason.
-who cares anyway.

did not really enjoy the music at the beginning
and probably even now
but sometimes, and only sometimes,
found it very touching
perhaps because, as some guy said,
"it is naked, bare, unprotected in its frail vulnerability, its troubled, damaged fragility. It is music and nothing but music."

what's impressed me most was not the music itself, but a poem by Hans Sahl written in the booklet of the album
it's said that the composer was inspired by this poem.

Stanzas

Quite slowly I am walking from the world
into a landscape farther off than far,
and what I was and am and shall remain
as patient, as unhurried walks with me
into a country never trodden yet.

Quite slowly I am walking out of time
into a future farther than any star,
and what I was and am and ever shall be
as patient, as unhurried walks with me
as though I'd never been or hardly been.

btw
"lament" means song or poem expressing grief

God is a Concept

God /John Lennon

God is a concept
By which we measure our pain
I'll say it again
God is a concept
By which we measure our pain

I don't believe in magic
I don't believe in I-ching
I don't believe in Bible
I don't believe in tarot
I don't believe in Hitler
I don't believe in Jesus
I don't believe in Kennedy
I don't believe in Buddha
I don't believe in Mantra
I don't believe in Gita
I don't believe in Yoga
I don't believe in Kings
I don't believe in Elvis
I don't believe in Zimmerman*
I don't believe in Beatles
I just believe in me
Yoko and me
And that's reality
The dream is over
What can I say?
The dream is over
Yesterday
I was the Dreamweaver
But now I'm reborn
I was the Walrus
But now I'm John
And so dear friends
You'll just have to carry on
The dream is over

God
john lennon/the plastic ono band中

I don't believe in..........
science - this was the first one came to my mind
truth - the second
art - i don't know
human being - probably
humanity - i still try to believe in

viva la tristeza! (long live sadness)

reivindicación:vindication
lagrima:teardrop
emoción:emotion
liquidar:liquidate
soledad:solitude
intimidad:intimacy, privacy
acompañar:accompany
melancolía: melancholy
complacencia:compliance, complacency
dolor:pain
masoquismo: masochism:pleasure obtained form receiving punishment( physical or psychological)

Gidon Kremer & Tango music

just went to Kremer's concert a month ago, and it was very impressive-that's why I wrote about it one month later.

I don't really know if I like this musician or more precisely speaking, the artist . But everytime I see his new albums in the CD shop, I would stop in front of them and think is it worthy a try? is it beautiful? Does it bring something new and interesting or completely unaccepable? all these are my experiences of listening to his music.

I almost have a collection of his recordings, from the well known classical pieces of Mozart, Beethoven, and Vivadi to contemporary composer's music, like Philip Glass, Arvo Part and particularly, Piazzaolla, the master of Tango music.

Couldn't remember the first time I listened to Kremer's version of Tango music, but it completely broke down my idea of it. Though never heared of it, I alway think tango music is passionate with quick tempo and make people excited. But it went very deep and for some unkown reasons, brings a sense of sadness( talking about severl songs in the album of "Tango Ballet"). I guess that's part of the sound effect of string instrument, however, the way he plays it probably works more.

Anyway, it's because of Kremer, I know the music by Piazzaolla. Don't like all of them, but some of them are really touching and beautiful. In this sense, I really admire him and appreciate the way Kremer doing his art, as he said,

"As an artist I am also alway a traveller, and as such in search of an ideal."

I have to say I don't like all his innovation on music, but Ialway expect him bring me something unexpected.
